ACL education for young athletes

The number of young athletes playing sports year-round has been picking up over the years, but so has the number of injuries.

While most don’t prevent them from sitting on the sidelines forever, one of the most common knee injuries doctors see today are ACL tears.

According to the American Journal of Sports Medicine, 200,000 ACL injuries occur every year in the United States.

Dr. Shelden Martin with OrthoArizona wants to see the number of ACL tears decrease and is educating young athletes, coaches and parents on ways to prevent this injury from happening.

Martin, who is also the head team physician for the Rattlers, held his 2nd annual ACL Injury Prevention Clinic on May 16, 2015.

Martin and therapists from Spooner Physical Therapy provided the young athletes with techniques to minimize their risk the next time they take the field.
